Gilding Recipes

Gilders Mordant is used in water gilding. It is the medium on which gold leaf is to be placed on the surface.:

Dissolve approximately half a teaspoon of Rabbit Skin Size into about half a pint of distilled water.

  • Add 2-3 dessert spoons of Isopropyl Alchohol.
  • Gently mix. After a while, the mordant tends to get a little cloudy, in which case a fresh supply should be used.
